How to Stop on a Snakeboard

How to Stop on a Snakeboard

After learning how to move a Snakeboard, learning how to stop is the next step.  In fact:  knowing the basics before you start moving is advisable!

In this article we will teach you step-by-step three ways to learn how to stop on a Snakeboard, starting at the most basic and finishing in the more advanced (and fun!)

1. The Step Off.

The easiest and safest way to stop on a Snakeboard is the step off. You should practice this at low speed at the beginning.  Counter intuitively it involves stepping off the board with your front foot.  This will stop you from having the board run away with your front foot and you being left doing the splits.

Once you have stepped off the board with your front foot keep it planted on the floor, you back foot can remain on the board, and control it to a stop, thus preventing it from running away from you and into somebodies ankles!

2. The Carve to Stop

The second way to stop on a Snakeboard is to pull deep carves at close to 90 degrees to the direction of your travel.  Each carve will scrub off a considerable amount of speed, eventually leaving your final one almost taking you full circle.  Of course this one will need you to have spotted a reason to stop a fair way before and so is not perfect for emergencies.

3. The Power Slide

The most flamboyant, fun and advanced way to stop is teh power slide.  When you are confident this really is the way to come to a dead stop in an emergency.  One things is key though, your wheels will not be suitable when brand new.  This is because they will be too sticky.  The key wheel to watch out for is your rear foot's toe edge wheel.  If needed scrub it off a little on a rough surface before learning.

You will need a bit of speed to be able to power slide.  Then you want to put your weight onto your leading leg.  Open the toe of your back foot and start to sweep it round to 90 degrees.  As you get close to 90 degrees the movement that will get you stopping to the snapping close of your back foot.  Be ready as you will be forced onto your toe edge as your body tries to carry on forwards.

So there you go.  That is three ways to stop on a Snakeboard.  If you have any questions do not hesitate to jump into the store chat.
