What is a Snakeboard?

Snakeboards were first invented in 1989 in South Africa with the aim to recreate that feeling of carving across the face of a wave for when there was no swell. Riders soon added straps taking advantage of the fact that you do not need to take your feet off the board to move. Snakeboard was the brand that launched and popularised Streetboards, a bit like what Rollerblade is to Inline Skating. A Snakeboard is made up of two pivoting plates connected by a central bar. You power the board with your upper body in combination with your feet. This allows you to power along at a crazy fast pace without ever taking your feet off the board. Even up some super steep hills. The unique design means that they are insanely manoeuvrable, giving you super deep turns, and means they can slay a slalom course. No need to learn to Ollie, let alone get the consistency you’d need to carve to your destination, confident you’ll conquer every curb. When going downhill, that’s when your smile will get turned up to 11. Carve like a surfer, flow like on snow, the Snakeboard is the perfect way to stay shred ready when the surf is flat or there’s no snow. So that is what a Snakeboard is. A super fun way to get outdoors, carve up your commute all while building balance, cultivating your coordination and getting in a wavy workout.
